Fiat parks it in VW’s front grill for Google Maps

Very clever Fiat. As reported by Yahoo earlier today Fiat apparently planted one of their flagship cars right in front of the VW corporate headquarters for all of Google Maps/world to see. Gorilla Marketing, maybe, elaborate, indeed! How in the world one pull this off without having help from a friend at Google? Maybe it’s just a coinkidink, but either way it’s one of the better marketing stunts we have seen lately.

Chipotle getting back to creative advertising

Check this out. Not only do we get to hear Willie sing a great Cold Play song, but the simple stop motion graphics are a great way to tell the story of our food processing digression over the years. “Never fear” says Chipotle, they are going back to the start, F2T like it should be. Proof? Just this link on their site.

Enjoy

Stay fresh…

Google Changes Search Algorithm

Results now prioritize most recent information By Dan Walker Smith

Google has introduced a new “freshness algorithm” to make search results more timely. The changes will affect around 35 percent of all searches.

Google will now place websites with new information higher than results that don’t feature recent updates. Previously, Google balanced its results between popular websites and recent news in user searches, according to the Toronto Star.

Google Fellow Amit Singhal explained the thinking behind the new search dynamic in a blog post. “Given the incredibly fast pace at which information moves in today’s world, the most recent information can be from the last week, day or even minute,” Singhal wrote. “Depending on the search terms, the algorithm needs to be able to figure out if a result from a week ago about a TV show is recent, or if a result from a week ago about breaking news is too old.”

The New York Times says that the move is a reaction to people increasingly using social networks for their searches. Networks such as Facebook and Twitter are now popular tools for people wanting up-to-the-minute results, Danny Sullivan, editor of Search Engine Land, told the Times.

“This is the result of them saying we need to find a way to more effectively get fresh content up,” Sullivan said. “It does help with the issue of people thinking, ‘Wow, if I need to find out about something breaking, I’ll go to Facebook or Twitter for that.’ ”

“The biggest source of the very freshest information is Twitter, and Google doesn’t have anywhere near the access to that kind of data as it had before,” he added.

The Times reports that Google changes its algorithm about 500 times a year. Most changes, however, only affect a small percentage of results.

Something cool about the 828 Bar in Oak Cliff, TX

A friend of ours has made way for the “Pop-Up” bar in Oak Cliff. Taking a vacant location and throwing up a bar for a short period of time, in this case 3 weeks seemed crazy, but they pulled it off. Partnering with local bartenders to get the correct TABC licensing to make it legit, having vintage furniture donated for loan and painting the signage on the walls made this unique and temporary. Each week the 828 would only be open from Thursday through Saturday nigh. One of the brilliant on top of brilliant ideas with this idea was incorporating a show of sorts for all to see. Each night they would have someone paint a mural over the mural from the previous week to keep it fresh. Local artist could come and show a skill you might not have seen before and do it right before your very eyes.

828 is a first, but will not be a last. Rob Shearer might have stumbled onto something more than a neat idea. In this economy where people are wanting/needing to market themselves in unique ways 828 serves as  a stag of sorts for a community to come together and collaborate and barter for the betterment of all involved rather than the few.
