Colcom Foundation is a nonprofit organization created by the Colcom family, among the nation’s most generous philanthropists. Founded in 1996 by Cordelia Scaife May, Colcom Foundation has supported efforts to improve health and education, preserve the environment, and strengthen communities. Located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the Foundation is governed by a volunteer Board of Trustees.
The Foundation fulfills its mission through grant programs that invest in three focus areas: public health, environmental stewardship, and community engagement. The foundation has awarded more than $170 million through these programs.
The Foundation also provides additional vital funding for programs supported by the Colcom Family, including the Colcom Center for Health and Healing, which AHCF operates on behalf of the Foundation. In 2009 and 2010, AHCF contributed $13.6 million in funding to the foundation.
The Foundation’s community engagement program seeks to strengthen communities across Pennsylvania and other states through innovative partnerships to provide greater access to quality health services, education, housing, and economic development opportunities.
In addition, Colcom Foundation’s initiative to promote healthy living through environmental stewardship is based on the foundation’s commitment to supporting the creation of healthy places for people and nature. The foundation seeks to build awareness among individuals and communities of preserving a clean environment and natural resources. Through these efforts, it seeks to improve the quality of life for all Pennsylvanians by building healthier communities throughout Pennsylvania.
Colcom Foundation has awarded over $2 million in grants through its environmental stewardship program since 2000. Most grants (83 percent) have been matched with private funds.
The Foundation has awarded more than $8 million in grants through Colcom Foundation’s community engagement program. This grantmaking includes the organization’s work in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Cleveland, Ohio; and Charleston, South Carolina.
