Kelcy Warren is an American businessman who has an estimated net worth of $14.1 billion. He is the founder and CEO of Dallas-based pipelines company KW Pipeline Company, one of the largest in North America.
Kelcy Warren graduated with a Business degree from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1982 with a focus on accounting and finance, where he also excelled as a Heisman Trophy winner as both a sophomore and junior on UT Arlington’s football team. After college, Kelcy started what became one of his most successful ventures, KW Natural Gas Pipeline Company in 1984 to 1986 with less than $1 million in annual revenue .
KW Pipeline Company has grown to over $6 billion in annual revenue, operating a network of approximately 3,000 miles of natural gas pipelines throughout North America.
In 1999, Kelcy Warren purchased the rights to explore for oil and gas in the Permian Basin of Texas from major oil company Sohio. He used some of the billions that he made from KW Pipeline Company for this venture. Kelcy Warren was then named as CEO and president of Mr. Sander’s Energy Resources LLC (MRES) which was later renamed as Carrizo Oil & Gas Corporation with Mr. Sander’s Energy Resources as its subsidiary. Mr. Sander was a major media investor who owned more than 30 stations in the Dallas/Fort Worth market.
He also founded independent oil company KW Energy LLC, now known as Canyon Ranch Midstream Partners, as well as Canyon Ranch Midstream GP LLC which is an indirect subsidiary of his affiliate of Canyon Ranch Gas Company. These two companies are expected to supply the shale gas production of Kelcy Warren’s company Carrizo Oil and Gas Corporation.
In 2004, he purchased the assets of Cleburne-based GNW Energy Company, which was later renamed as KWS Resources LLC. He was named as its CEO and President a year later. In 2006, he founded his third oil company, Plains Capital Banker which is now known as C3 Midstream LLC.
